The Accessibility of Affirmative Therapy
The first step in achieving mental health justice for TGNC individuals is accessibility.
There is a severe lack of accessibility when it comes to affirmative therapists and counselors. Whether the resource doesn't exist in certain parts of the country or therapists are unfamiliar/un-trained in this particular sphere, affirmative healthcare is very difficult to come by. TGNC individuals are a vulnerable population, often suffering from negative and hateful societal beliefs. These individuals are disproportionately affected by violent hate crimes and discriminatory bigotry, so the need for sufficient affirmative healthcare is critical for the well-being of TGNC people. Working to provide self-affirmative therapy to marginalized communities will provide the results therapists need when addressing the afflictions and oppression many TGNC people face daily, as well as improving the overall mental health and validation TGNC people need to survive.
